The Bulls Bandits
Just in-case you somehow managed to miss the amazing masterpiece that was Red Bulls incredible re-incarnation of BMX Bandits from last year then check it out before we go any further……
Now that you are appropriately stoked out of your mind I can tell you about how stoked a BMX nerd as tragic as myself became when Red Bull asked me to rebuild and service 2 out of the 3 bikes used in the video. Corey Bohan decided to keep his bike (and why the hell wouldn’t you????) but Hucker and Leanna Curtis’ bikes needed some TLC before being retired to a cushy life on the walls of the Red Bull Australia head office walls.
I got stuck into Huckers bike first. The only thing that would have made Thursday any cooler would have been if this bike actually was a real S&M Dirtbike!
Even though the crew came through the shop while they were filming for the video, I did not get to see the bikes in the flesh and after seeing the video a bunch of times, getting to attack them with the tools was a little bit of an awesome nerd moment. Huckers Chrome faux Diamond Back and Leanna’s faux Malvern Star Super Max were fun to wrench on and cool to show off to people. There is something special about coloured Skyway Tuff Wheels that seem to spark a ton of enthusiastic conversations (even if they are unexpected or unwelcome)
Reverend Beau Jones’ sign could not be any more fitting with these bikes in the shop!
Stoked is the word.
Well there you have it folks. You can now go and tell everyone that Tom at Hell On Wheels is the OFFICIAL BMX bicycle mechanic of Red Bull Australia……………
